You would think that building the entire Internet would keep Cisco pretty occupied, but since one third of all Internet traffic is now video, Cisco has decided to venture out into the new consumer video frontier. They created an HD video conferencing device called ūMI that extends their network, “the human network”, into the ever-expanding video arena.The concept behind the ūMI campaign illustrates how the quality and ease of an HD video chat makes it feel as if you’re actually in the same room as the person you’re talking to. This technology brings families, friends and collaborators together in ways never before available at this level. Ogilvy LA tapped HAUS director Alex Turvey to create the treatment and co-direct the online videos with Dan Hertzog. The nine spots included six demos, two how-to’s and one hero spot that was the creative nucleus of the entire project. This main spot was a very complex piece of work, shot all in a single take. We had moving sets on sliding rails, pictures and objects floating in mid air, transforming walls, etc. It took a synchronized crew of nearly 45 people to make it all happen in one seamless shot. After 3 days of building and rehearsal, we only needed an hour to shoot it. After 5 takes, we got it. It was quite the spectacle.
